Third Time Lucky As Rising Festival Is Back This Winter!

Suss out the star studded winter arts fest set to get our bpm risin’!

Rising is a surge of art, music, performance, food and ceremony in the heart of Melbourne and after an absolute clusterf*ck of lockdowns that put the previous two attempts to bed, there’s nothing stopping it this time. Touch every bit of wood you can find because this is essentially three years in the making.

And we can’t wait. Because from June 1-12 we’ll finally get to experience everything this bad boy has been built up to be.

Let’s get the numbers out of the way first cos they’ll impress ya. 225 events, 22 commissions and 14 world premieres across 12 nights of goodness.

The program features both free and ticketed events. Here’s a little snippet of what you can expect at Rising which hopefully raises your excitement levels.

The Wilds:

Sidney Myer Music Bowl will be transformed into a supernatural bamboo forest of ice, art, sound and moonlight. Yep, the stage is being transformed again into an ice rink.

The Lighthouse – David Moyle:

Perched at the top of the Wilds, The Lighthouse brings the outdoors inside, with its radiant, 130-seat glass atrium immersing diners in warmth, plant life and bespoke lighting. A three course menu will be headed by acclaimed chef and restaurateur David Moyle.

Monochord:

Hit the Yarra River in the heart of the city and you’ll see some epic laser projections lighting up the the Princess Bridge and capturing the lines of the city. At a casual 1km long, the laser beam fires at regular intervals and is in sync to a soundscape and music.

A Miracle Constantly Repeated:

Flinders Street Station’s mysterious Ballroom is transformed the enigmatic into an eerie art ecosystem ft. sentient saplings, marine mammals and awe inspiring dioramas.

Golden Square:

A spiraling, sparkling Chinatown art car park. A concrete cavern of melting ice sculptures, a laser-eyed inflatable, kayak performance, cocktails and moon parades.

The Invisible Opera:

Melbs will be brought to life through live vocals from a network of hidden microphones and CCTV cameras. Hear the city as you’ve never heard it before.

Make sure you head online to suss out everything that Rising has to offer and map out your 12 nights of fun. We’ll see you there!
